OFFICIAL: Disney World Marathon Registered Participant

Oh, what's that you say? I need to sign up for another race or my running life will just flash before my eyes?  Okay then.

BAM!!! SUCK ON THAT!

Throwing down the Disney World 5k, half-marathon, full-marathon gauntlet!  Great location, great parks, avoiding the crazy Christmas and New Years crowds by a week, and potentially great people.  Who is with me?

For serious. Getting an amazing group of people to come out and race on the same week is tantamount to rocking my socks clear off my feet and across the room.

As I've announced before, I have been aiming for a sub-6-minute mile for some time.  I don't run them in isolation, I run them as part of interval training and so I got close on a number of occasions but couldn't quite get over that hump.  Wednesday, on a cool, crisp spring morning. Birds chirping, sun shining, Houston smelling a little bit like pollution, I was running 4 X 1 mile.

First mile: 6:14
Second mile: 6:06
Third mile: 5:47 (WHATTTTT???)
Fourth mile: 5:56 (CR%P!?!?)

Dang. Serious fist pumps were in order and while just off a very busy Memorial Road in Houston I was fist pumping to "beat the beat back!" Shattered my previous recorded bests and now I'm aiming for a new PR. HOLLERRRRRRRRRR. My joy was soon demolished when Jill posted that her high-school-aged son knocked out a 5:05. Jill, can you at least credit the clam-shelled legs with the awesome time?

And, on a final Friday note, THIS! What is that? Why it's 37,000 images of the night sky stitched together to create one of the most comprehensive views to date. The photos were each taken by an amateur astronomer and his father who travelled 60,000 miles to find the darkest skies to shoot it (more information here). The site allows the user to view the sky from 360 degrees, allowing zoom and constellation information (just added and awesome)!!! Have a fantastic, interstellar day, y'all, and thank you to Randy P. for the link!

We're with you. We're already putting a team together for the weekend and as team coach, I'm running the Goofy! There is a fee for joining the team, but there's no fund raising requirement. Check it out:

Do the Goofy Challenge, might be appropriate, though only Sara knows for sure. Your mile times are like 3:47 for a HSer.

Oh man, sorry to steal your mile thunder. Yes, doing clam-shells makes those miles so much tougher for you!!

As commented in the email, I am jealous of your Disney adventure - that's always been on my radar. But meeting you in July will be just as awesome.

How cool that you are doing Disney! If my kids were younger I would totally do this :)
